Hearts of Oak striker, John Antwi, is hoping newly-appointed Black Stars coach, Carlos Queiroz, will give him the opportunity to prove his worth at the senior national team level.
The forward made a strong statement of intent yesterday, scoring twice as Hearts of Oak thrashed Berekum Chelsea 4-0 in their Ghana Premier League opening game at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Antwi, who joined the Phobians from Dreams FC this season, believes his performances could earn him a place in the Black Stars squad if given the opportunity.
Speaking after the game, the striker said representing the senior national team remained the ultimate ambition of every Ghanaian footballer, but he was prepared to be patient and continue working hard.
He said he would bide his time and remain focused on his performances at club level in the hope of eventually attracting the attention of Coach Queiroz and his technical team.
“Every player wants to play for the national team, but I will continue to work hard and wait for my opportunity,” Antwi said.
The experienced attacker also praised Hearts of Oak coach Nebojsa Kapor and his technical team for their contribution to his development since his arrival at the club.
According to Antwi, the Bosnian coach and his backroom staff have played a significant role in helping the club regain its strength while also bringing out the best in him.
He said the positive atmosphere within the team had given him the confidence to perform and contribute to the club’s campaign.
Coach Kapor, meanwhile, commended his players for their hard work and discipline in the emphatic victory over Berekum Chelsea.
The Serbian coach said the players' commitment to their roles was instrumental in ensuring a positive start to the new Ghana Premier League campaign.
