Akonnor explains Ocran signing for Gor Mahia

The Head coach of Kenyan champions Gor Mahia, Charles Kwablan Akonnor, says he recommended the signing of Ghanaian defender Ebenezer Ocran because of his experience.

The Kenyan giants recently reached an agreement with FC Samartex for Ocran's transfer, with Akonnor believing the defender will play a key role in the club's CAF Champions League campaign next season.

Gor Mahia secured the Kenyan Premier League title last season to qualify for the continent's most prestigious club competition.

Speaking to the Graphic Sports, Akonnor said the club was keen to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season and Ocran emerged as the ideal candidate to bolster the defence.

"We needed an experienced player in that position," Akonnor said when asked why the club opted to sign the 29-year-old centre-back.

Ocran has been one of FC Samartex's standout performers in recent seasons. Last season, he played a pivotal role as the club finished fifth in the Ghana Premier League, earning recognition for his consistency and leadership at the heart of the defence.

Akonnor expressed confidence that Ocran's experience and composure will be valuable assets as Gor Mahia seeks to make a strong impression in the CAF Champions League.
