The club announced on Tuesday that assistant coach, Prince George Koffie, has been asked to take charge of the Ayinase-based side for the rest of the season.

A statement by Karela said Adotey had been asked to step aside on health grounds, the club's disappointing run of form lately appears to have fast-tracked the coach's departure three games to the end of the league. Adotey's side lost three of their last four matches and have slipped to the seventh position on the league log.

The Graphic Online understands that 56-year-old Adotey has missed some training session due to health challenges. He was appointed head coach midway into last season on a one-year contract a replacement for Enos Adepa who left the club via mutual agreement in March.

Karela ended the first round on top of the league log, but have lost ground in recent weeks and picked just 15 points out of a maximum 42 [three wins, six draws and five losses] in the second half of the competition.

Evans Adotey paid the price for his health challenges and poor results

Karela's title chase was affected by the two-week absence of Adotey -- who the assistant coach of the Black Satellites -- during the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Mauritania, as well as the unavailability of the club's leading marksman, Diawisie Taylor, who sat out of some league matches this month after contracting COVID-9 during the Black Meteors' tour of Asia.

The statement assured the club's supporters and all stakeholders that they remain "resolute and focused" in their quest to place a respectable position on the league log at the end of the season.

On Sunday Koffie will lead Karela to Sogakope to face relegation-threatened Liberty Professionals at the WAFA Park.
