GFA fires back at SAFA
The GFA’s reaction which was contained in a statement yesterday followed SAFA’s press conference held in Johannesburg last Wednesday requesting FIFA to investigate their World Cup qualifier against Ghana last Sunday, which they lost 0-1, courtesy an Andre Ayew penalty kick.

Danny Jordaan, the SAFA president, who addressed the media wanted the world governing body to investigate whether there were betting spikes before the penalty was awarded, among other claims.
False allegations
However, the GFA described those claims as frivolous and without any basis, insisting that SAFA’s action was meant to shift attention from their defeat and to denigrate the effort put in by the Black Stars to win the game.
“In fact, the Ghana Football Association will not allow SAFA to visit its incompetence on it through these allegations.
“Is it not strange that the coach of the South African national team thought that FIFA will use head-to-head when two teams end the group stage with the same number of points and had to be corrected by the media?
“The South African team actually thought Ghana needed a 2-0 margin to qualify when Ghana needed any win to qualify per the FIFA Regulations on the qualifiers,” the statement said.
The GFA stressed that the allegations by SAFA lacked merit and should therefore be treated with contempt, adding that it was just a calculated attempt to put a blot on the hard-fought victory of the Black Stars.
“We wish to state categorically that the allegations are frivolous, baseless and lack merit and should be treated with the contempt it deserves.
“These allegations from the South African Football Association are nothing but a planned scheme and a calculated attempt to shift focus from the defeat, divert attention from their failure to qualify for the play-offs and unjustly dent the hard-earned victory of the Black Stars”, the statement added.
