Two of Accra Milo Marathon’s most decorated athletes, David Zigah and Godwin Adukpo, are hoping to bounce back in style tomorrow as they seek to re-impose their reputation on the nation’s premier road race tomorrow after their dominance was challenged in the last two years.
Both Zigah and Adukpo became household names between 2000-2010, having dominated the competition in the country and d nine titles between them. However, with the passage of time, new and more energetic athletes have emerged on the scene to challenge the two perennial champions in their pursuit of fame and glory.
Last year, Kenyan Alex Kimeli stunned his Ghanaian counterparts by winning the men’s competition and running away with the GH¢10,000 prize, for which the veterans have trained hard in a bid to restore the old order tomorrow.
An enhanced financial package of GH¢12,000 each for the men’s and women’s winners of the 27th Accra Milo Marathon is one reason why the 42.2km race will be even fiercer than ever before as the athletes attempt to go the extra mile for glory.
Among the frontrunners are William Akuka Awinime, who masterminded the upset of Adukpo in 2011 and is also hoping to finish among the top three and make it to the medal’s podium.
