Coach Mohammed Polo believes the introduction of Abdul Majeed Waris into the Black Stars starting 11 could cause problems for the German defence in their World Cup clash tomorrow.
The Accra Hearts of Oak trainer believes the pace of the 22-year-old Waris will trouble the sluggish German centre-back pair of Per Mertesacker and Matt Hummels.
“The Stars must start this crucial game cautiously because like USA, if you give the Germans space they will punish you” noted Polo.
“The presence of Waris, who is very quick will trouble the Germans who are slow in central defence. it will also free-up space for Asamoah Gyan who was over-burdened with striking responsibilities in the USA opener”.
The “Dribbling Magician’ as Polo was called during his hey day, however cautioned that all the attacking play of the Stars would come to nothing if Coach Kwasi Appiah did not fix his defensive problems before the tie.
“Defending starts from the front, so it is unfair to heap all the blame on John Boye even though he should have prevented Clint Dempsey from dribbling past him. The Germans start as favourites but at the end of the day it’s 11 men against 11 other men’.
