The Ghana Football Association says it has accepted an apology by Black Stars midfielder Sulley Ali Muntari over his angry outburst when he was substituted in a game against Lesotho in Maseru in June.
Sulley stormed off the pitch in anger after he was taken off early in the second half of the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho, which match the Black Stars won by 2:0. He later also confronted coach Kwasi Appiah openly in a dressing room incident and demanded justification for his substitution.
His action was roundly condemned though, while the FA and coach made it clear only an apology would pave the way for his return to the team he plays as a senior member.
Sulley has since written to apologise in a letter headed ‘LETTER OF APOLOGY’ in which he says; ‘I write this letter to render my sincere apologies to the Management, Technical Team and the entire players of the Black Stars for my after the Lesotho/Ghana match which was played in Maseru on Sunday, 17th June 2013.
‘I wish to state that this unfortunate incident will not happen again.’
On Thursday the football association, per a letter signed by its General Secretary, Emmanuel Gyimah responded:
“Dear Mr Sulley Muntari,
“On behalf of the Ghana Football Association, the technical and the management team of the Black Stars, your most sincere apology is accepted.
“It is our hope that we will work together with harmony to ensure the continuous progress of our beloved national team of Ghana, the Black Stars.”
