Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has reiterated that every penny of the GH¢24.7m budget allocated towards the Black Stars’ 2014 World Cup campaign would be duly accounted for.
To enable him to fulfil his pledge, the minister noted that the money given to the Black Stars would be duly audited and that processes in payment would also be transparent.
The minister made the pledge when he launched a text promotional campaign to solicit funds for the various supporters groups to travel to Brazil.
The event attracted over 2,000 supporters from the various groups, including Die-Hard, Millenium, Nationwide, National Supporters and National Women’s Supporters Union.
Dubbed the “Fanatic Draw”, soccer enthusiasts are obliged to text “Score 1474” to short code on all mobile telecommunication networks in the country and win prizes on weekly and monthly basis.
The initiative will see fans who text being charged 70 pesewas. A weekly draw will reward fans with assorted items, including fridges, TV sets, air-conditioners, and a Fiat saloon car.
The minister entreated Ghanaians to text and raise funds for supporters to go to Brazil to cheer the Stars on.
According to the minister, the Stars would be orphaned and would lack morale if no supporters went to Brazil.
