Stars aim for revenge over Senegal

Black Stars deputy skipper, Andre Ayew, is expected to lead his teammates  against the Teranga Lions of Senegal in a friendly international which has been described as a “payback time” for Coach Avram Grant’s side.

Ghana's 1-2 loss to the Lions at the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea provides the Stars an opportunity to avenge that loss in today’s clash at the Oceane Stadium in the French city of Le Havre, ahead of next Tuesday’s friendly with Mali.

Even though injury has robbed Grant of players such as Asamoah Gyan, Mahatma Otoo and Baba Rahman, the Israeli still has the cream of the players who reached the final of the AFCON.  Jeffrey Schlupp, Ebenezer Assifuah and Richmond Boakye Yiadom also look poised to catch the eye of the coach for a permanent place in the team.

The Senegalese side have been boosted by the return of former Chelsea star, Demba Ba, who on a good day can prove a handful for his markers and his presence in the Lions team makes this evening’s game a tough one.

Next Tuesday’s clash with Mali looks another difficult test for the Stars as the Eagles have presented tough opposition for the Ghanaians in recent clashes. Twice they defeated the Stars in the third-place matches at the 2012 and 2013 Nations Cup, having previously clashed in the group stage of both tournaments.
