Queens lose 0-5 to Japan

The Black Queens, Ghana’s senior female football team, last Saturday lost 0-5 to Japan in their second international friendly match played in Tokyo.

All goals game in the first half as a result of defensive blunders.

The result was a disappointing one as the Queens had earlier held their hosts to a goalless draw, just days after recording a similar result against the Japanese Olympic team.

Coach Yussif Basigi, in an interview with the Graphic Sports, said though it was an anticlimax to their useful training tour in Japan, he was more concerned about the exercise rather than the result.

“Losing by that margin was not what we had anticipated. But it helped to identify the weakness of the team which we will work and improve on before we go to Namibia for the African Women’s Championship next month.

“ We thought we were almost peaking, but the matches in Japan have shown that there are still some rough edges to smoothen. We will do that in time for Namibia 2014,” Coach Baisgi said.

The Queens are expected back home today and will continue with their training before they leave for Namibia in the first week of October.

In Namibia where they will attempt to win the AWC title for the first time, the Queens will play South Africa, Cameroon and Algeria in Group B.
