The 2013-2014 MTN FA Cup awards ceremony comes off on Saturday at the Banquet Hall in Accra when Bechem United’s Augustine Okrah, Kumasi Asante Kotoko duo Abeiku Ainooson and Issah Yakubu, and Bibiani Gold Stars' Elvis Opoku vie for the Best Player of the Year award.
FA Cup winners, Kotoko, are set to dominate the awards as many of their players were nominated for the various award categories released by The FA Cup Committee (FACC) last month.
Despite fighting for the top award, Gold Stars’ Elvis Opoku faces no challenge for the top scorer prize after netting seven goals by the round of 16 stage before bowing out of the competition.
However, Coach Didi Dramani of Kotoko will face stiff competition for the Best Coach award from former Inter Allies trainer, Herbert Addo, John Kila of Feyenoord FC, and King Faisal’s Prince Acheampong.
Notwithstanding the challenge, Didi Dramani is likely to annex the award after guiding his side to win their eighth Cup since 2001.
The Discovery Of The Year will also be an interesting area that will be hotly contested by youngsters such as top scorer, Elvis Opoku, Benjamin Tetteh of Mighty Jets, Inter Allies’ Patrick Kpozo, and Feyenoord’s Lassana Coulibaliy.
Other awards on the night are: Defender of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Referee of the Year, Assistant Referee of the Year, Promising Referees of the Year, Best Goal of the Tournament, Fair Play and Highest Scoring Club of the Year, which will automatically go to Kotoko for scoring 17 goals.
There will also be special awards for those who have made various contributions towards the development of soccer in the country.
