Kotoko to crush Medeama?

Some Kotoko players celebrate a goalDefending league champions, Asante Kotoko, will take one more step toward their title defence project when they host title contenders Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi today.

The Porcupine Warriors have made a steady climb to the second position with six games remaining, and their meeting with Medeama could define the possible direction of ultimate success as the Glo league heads into the home stretch.

For long, Medeama had stayed in the lead and were considered credible contenders until they crumbled in their last two games. First, they fell to Amidaus Professionals in Tema before their surprise loss to Liberty Professionals at their Tarkwa home last Sunday.

The effect of their recent inconsistency is their slip from an almost commanding lead to third place where they share equal points with second-placed Kotoko.

The title ambitions of either side provide good motivation, and it is in Kumasi today that the title might be won or lost by either side – despite the threat from table-topping Berekum Chelsea.

Kotoko won the reverse fixture at Tarkwa 1-0, but the intervening period has seen fluctuating fortunes for both sides, and today’s match will seek to establish the real championship credentials of either side.

Elsewhere, Chelsea host Tema Youth at Berekum in a game that seems very crucial to the ambitions of both sides.

Chelsea need all three points to stay in the hunt for their second title ever, while Tema Youth are flirting with relegation.
