High goal count in Glo Premier League

Mahatma Otoo (Hearts of Oak), Glo Premier League top scorer with 200 goalsA total of 513 goals were scored after the last ball was kicked last Sunday, in the 2012-13 Glo Premier League, with statistics showing a high goal count compared to the previous season.

After 240 matches in a competitive campaign that saw the title destination decided on the last day, a total of 513 goals were scored among the 16 participating teams.

And that is an average of 2.1 goals per game — an improvement on the 1.98 average goals per game recorded in the previous season.

The average goals per week was 17.1 and each club scored an average of 32.06 goals. Last season recorded an average goals per week of 15.87.

The 2012-13 season outscored the previous season's figure of 476 by 37 more goals.

A total of 170 wins was recorded with 70 drawn matches. Asante Kotoko lost just two matches while Real Tamale United lost 25 times.

Hearts of Oak scored the highest number of goals - 46 - while Real Tamale United settled for the least goals scored  19.

Back-to-back champions, Kotoko finished the campaign with the best defensive record after conceding 23 goals in 30 matches. But demoted Real Tamale United, who propped the 16-team table, picked the ball 73 times from their net.

Hearts of Oak striker Mahatma Otoo capped a fantastic year with the Golden Boot, topping the goal chart with 20 goals.
