The National Chapters Committee (NCC) of Accra Hearts of Oak yesterday commemorated the 10th anniversary of the club’s CAF Confederations Cup triumph over rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, at the club’s secretariat.
The 2005 Cup final, which was played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, saw Hearts beat Kotoko 9-8 on penalties after Lawrence Adjah Tetteh had cancelled Kotoko’s early goal.
A member of the then team, Bernard Don Bortey, who was present at the function, thanked the NCC for the remembrance and emphasised the need for fans of Hearts to celebrate the trophy which, he said, would motivate the current players in the team to be hungry for more trophies.
“It was indeed an emotional day for us after winning the trophy in Kumasi and I think celebrating the 10th anniversary will motivate the current players in the team to go for more trophies as well,” he said.
The Chairman of the NCC, Eric Barimah-Atuahene, urged all supporters to rally behind the team, especially as they make a comeback to participate in this year’s forthcoming CAF Confederations Cup.
