Sekondi Hasaacas and runaway league leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko yesterday produced a two-goal thriller at the Sekondi Sports Stadium at Essipon and split the points at stake in their First Capital Plus Premier League match.
Fans had their money’s worth in the end-to-end display and had to wait till the second half to celebrate the goals.
Essipon has been a slippery ground for visiting sides, but it was Kotoko who opened scoring on the hour mark through Issah Yakubu who capitalised on a defensive blunder during a corner kick. Moments earlier, Hasaacas goalie George Owu had denied his former club a goal during the fast break as he deflected Yakubu’s shot to corner.
In the 70th minute, Kotoko’s numerical strength was reduced to 10 when Abeiku Ainooson was given the marching off order by J.A. Amenya for a second bookable offence. The strong defender brought down Hasaacas forward Frederick Quayson in the penalty box, which earned the home side a deserved spot kick.
Tenneson Opoku converted the kick to score the equalising goal which sent the home fans into raptures as the club maintained the fourth position on the log.
