Scores of soccer fans yesterday took to the streets of Accra to demonstrate in protest the refusal of the Canadian High Commission to issue some of them with visa to travel to Canada to support the Black Princesses, Ghana’s Under 20 women’s team.
The protesters, with placards bearing various inscriptions, were led by presidents of the various supporters union groups including Abraham Boakye aka One Man Supporter, Abraham Nkansah, alias Apuirugu Chakapaama, Aziz Haruna Futa and Kofi Poku.
The demonstrators began their march from the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nrumah Circle and continued through Adabraka and Farisco Traffic Lights amid singing, drumming and dancing.
Some placards read "Canada, Give Us our money"; Government has failed us"; and "This is our land Canada Embassy go away".
The march ended at the Accra Hearts of OAK Park, where Kofi Poku, an official of Kenpong Travel and Tours, told the media that the Ministry of Foreign Affiars refused to receive their petition.
He said the protest would continue until the Canadian Embassy gave them a hearing.
