The Faithfuls, a supporters’ wing of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, yesterday awarded Black Stars’ coach, Kwasi Appiah, and his assistant, Maxwell Konadu, for their outstanding service to both the club and the country in their playing and coaching careers.
The ceremony took place in Accra as part of the Faithfuls’ first anniversary, and the group took the opportunity to present a situational analysis and a proposed five-year development plan for Kotoko.
Kwasi Appiah and his deputy were each given a citation, a picture frame and a kente cloth for being the first indigenous coach to qualify the Stars to the World Cup, as well as his exemplary service to Kotoko and the Black Stars.
Appiah’s citation, which was received on his behalf by Sabahn Quaye, read, “You have constantly and deliberately performed your roles as the coach of the Black Stars, being the first Ghanian to qualify them to the World Cup, as well as a former player and coach of our darling club, and with this achievement, we honour you”.
Konadu, a former striker of the Porcupine Warriors, received a citation which read, “We are awarding you for winning the Premier League with our club on your debut season and as a silver-winning coach with the local Black Stars at the recent CHAN in South Africa”.
The President of the Kumasi Asante Kotoko Faithfuls, Yaw Amo Sarpong, said the group was an elite group of supporters who sought to provide continuous and unflinching support to the Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club and serve as an interface between the club and its supporters.
