Cape Coast-based Ebusua Dwarfs earned a vital point that could prove decisive in their battle against relegation after holding Wa All Stars to a 1-1 draw in their outstanding First Capital Plus Premier League clash in Wa yesterday.
Against all expectations, the visitors put up a determined performance to hold All Stars but both sides had to wait till late in the game to share the points at stake, even though the point earned could not lift Dwarfs from the bottom spot of the log.
Both goals were scored in the last five minutes of the game.
Dwarfs dominated the midfield throughout the second half until they conceded the equaliser in the 89th minute, having taken the lead in the 86th minute through striker Kweku Asuandzie who fired the ball into an unguarded post after the Wa All Stars goalie Collins Addo had moved off his line but failed to save a cross by Dwarfs’ Kofi Yeboah during an attack.
With defeat staring at them in their backyard, All Stars dug deep into their reserves and deservedly scored the equaliser through Faisal Gambo who flicked the ball past several players in the Dwarfs goal area after receiving a pass from Joseph Esson.
Dwarfs dominated the early exchanges after kick-off and came close to scoring on many occasions but wasted the chances that came their way, with Emmanuel Gyamfi proving a handful for the All Stars defenders.
Dwarfs blew their best chance in the 36th minute when Asuandzie fired the ball straight to goalkeeper Addo, after a good move between Gyamfi and Michael Mensah who placed the ball in the path of Asuandzie in the All Stars goal area.
