Coach Coach Karim Zito to prune down U-20 squad

Pressure could be mounting on Black Satellites coach, Karim Zito as he inches closer to naming his final squad for the national Under-20 side.

The coach, who invited 140 players from which he is expected to pick his 23-man squad, has begun preparation with the first batch of 70 players.

While the second batch of 70 players are expected to resume camping on Sunday, Coach Zito has the unbearable task of pruning down the current 70 players in camp just to keep a minimal squad.

As at yesterday, the first batch of players were feverishly preparing at the GFA Technical Centre at Prampram to catch the eye of the Under-20 trainer to be considered for the final squad.

Ghana is preparing for the upcoming West Africa Football Union (WAFU) ‘B’ qualifying competition scheduled for Togo in November this year.
The winner and runners-up from the competition would get the nod to represent the Zone in the 2021 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania in February.

Ghana, the three times Africa champions (1993, 1999, and 2009) have seen their fortunes on that stage dwindled over the years with their best performance coming in 2015 when they finished in third place.

This unpleasant story is what Coach Zito is determined to reverse by selecting the finest young talents in the country to the WAFU competition later in the year.
