The decision was announced by the club yesterday after the coach requested to be released from his two-year contract for personal reasons.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the Board, A.K. Osei-Owusu, the club said it had agreed to Tinkler’s request with immediate effect.
“The Board of Directors of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has agreed to the request of its Head Coach, Mr Eric Tinkler, to be released from his contract with the club immediately for personal reasons,” the statement said.
Tinkler, who was appointed in July 2026 on a two-year deal, is reportedly set to take up a more lucrative offer from a South African club, although Kotoko did not disclose the specific reason behind his departure beyond the coach’s stated personal reasons.
The club said it had held discussions with Tinkler in an attempt to prevent his departure at this stage of their relationship.
“Both parties engaged in meaningful negotiations to avert the decision at this time of the relationship between the parties but finally had to respect Coach Tinkler’s decision,” the statement added.
Tinkler’s sudden exit comes after only four league matches in charge, bringing an unexpectedly short end to his tenure at the Kumasi-based club.
Kotoko expressed appreciation to the former South Africa international for his professionalism and commitment during his brief spell and wished him success in his future endeavours.
The departure leaves the Porcupine Warriors facing another coaching transition barely two months into the 2026-27 season.
