Black Stars striker, Mahatma Otoo, is not worried about his exclusion from the Black Stars team that played in the last match of the World Cup qualifiers in Egpyt.
The striker did not make a place in Coach Kwasi Appiah’s team but he does not appear worried as, according to him, the coach was like a father figure and knew what was best for him.
“At the time of the call-up for the Egypt game, my team was also engaged in its last round of games so it was good that the coach left me out”, Mahatma said.
Meanwhile, the Norway-based striker considers the Black Stars as one of the top favourites to progress beyond the group stages of the World Cup.
He said just as the other teams had good players, the Stars were endowed with some of the best players in the world which made them prime target for the rest of the countries in the group.
The former Hearts striker now on holidays after his first season with Sogndal, told the Graphic Sports in an exclusive interview last Wednesday that due to Ghana’s strength in world football it opponents must have by now set spies on them.
Reacting to the concern of most Ghanaians about the toughness of the teams in the group that the Black Stars would begin their campaign for the 2014 World Cup, the 21-year-old explained that was the best group Ghana could ever ask for because if they were able to beat the bigger teams there was no way they would not reach the final.
“I don’t know why Ghanaians are worried about Germany and Portugal in the group, does it mean they don’t have confidence in the Black Stars?” he queried.
He explained that ‘in football you need to beat the champions to become the champion’.
The ex-Hearts skipper said he did not consider Ghana’s group as the ‘group of death’ but was thrilled by the opportunity to play the big teams at the early stages to help them build their confidence as the competition progresses.
