Kumasi Asante Kotoko marksman, Seidu Bancey, has warned his teammates against complacency ahead of their penultimate First Capital Plus Premier League fixture against dithering rivals Accra Hearts of Oak.Coach Mohammed Polo’s Hearts lie third on the league log after an uninspiring second round showing in the league.
However, the lanky forward says, , even though they are the uncrowned league champions, Kotoko must be on guard to avoid an embarrassing defeat in front of their fans at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Bancey also believes that comparing the teams' contrasting league fortunes could prove deceptive and costly for the Porcupine Warriors.
“Derbies against Hearts are more intense and pressurised than other games but they also provide a huge platform to show our talents to the world.
“The intense pressure makes it easy for petty mistakes to occur thereby costing your team all three points,” he added.
“At times I score the goals but I am much more interested when those goals contribute to victory for Kotoko. I will score If I get an opportunity on Sunday but it counts for nothing if we lose.
“If we play as a team, victory will surely be ours because we possess more quality players.”
Bancey, 24, also contends that strikers on the local scene are unfairly criticised for their perceived low scoring rates.
“The season has not ended but I have scored 12 goals from the 20 league games I have played. If you compare the top scorer in South Africa, Bernard Parker, who has scored 10 goals, you will see we are doing well.
I have always accept constructive criticisms but the number of goals could also mean that there are tough defenders in the Ghana Premier League,” he stressed.
