Ghana international, Kwadwo Asamoah, has been ruled out for three months with a knee injury which means the Juventus star is set to miss the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
The 25-year-old midfielder has been a key player for the Black Stars, but new Ghana coach Avram Grant will have to do without him for the 2015 tournament, which takes place in Equatorial Guinea from January 17 to February 8.
Asamoah will undergo surgery in his left knee in the next few days.
"It will take about three months for Asamoah to recover," Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri announced ahead of the Turin derby against Torino yesterday.
Asamoah, who missed Ghana’s last two Nations Cup qualifiers against Uganda and Togo last month due to an injuty he picked while playing for the Italian champions, has made 66 senior international appearances and scored four times.
His absence will be a big blow to Grant, who begins his new job today with the Nations Cup on his mind, even though the Ghana Ftooball Association is not demanding a fifth continental trophy from the Israeli who has barely two months to prepare his team.
Asamoah was a key player for the national team at the last three Nations Cup tournaments.
Four-time champions Ghana won the last of their continental titles in 1982 but came closest to adding a fifth in 2010 when they lost the final 1-0 against Egypt in Angola.
