Two top Ghanaian referees, Joseph Lamptey and Malick Alidu Salifu have been chosen by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to officiate in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Equatorial Guinea in January-February next year.
The duo were included in a list of 44 referees and assistants selected from across the continent for Africa’s prestigious tournament.
Lamptey and Salifu have been impressive in their respective CAF assignments this year, resulting in their eventual selection for the next AFCON which promises to be very competitive.
The two officials were in action alongside compatriot David Laryea when Mali hosted Algeria in a crucial 2015 AFCON qualifier in Bamako last month.
The trio were again in charge of the AFCON qualifier between Gabon and Burkina Faso in Libreville in October, as well as Nigeria’s home game against Congo in Calabar last September.
Lamptey, an immigration officer, is a centre referee, while Salifu is an assistant referee.
