He explained that youngsters such as Joseph Paintsil, Kamal Deen Sulemana, Mohammed Kudus, Baba Iddrisu and Fatawu issahaku are participating in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time, hence should not be expected to perform like the experienced players who have seen it all.

Immediate success

The former Nordsjaelland of Denmark, Asante Kotoko and Black Maidens coach said the only way the nation could get immediate results was to rely on matured players at such a big stage as the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

“If we wanted immediate success at the AFCON, then we should have gone for top stars, which we don't have, apart from Thomas Partey and Daniel Amartey.

"For now, we have to groom players into the future since we can't buy success," he emphasised.

"When you compare our team with the others you can see that they are ahead of us. We need to develop our team gradually into the future."

He stressed the need for the nation to have a plan to build a formidable team over a certain period of time in order to get the required results as was the case in the past.

"We need to create the processes of building a winning team over time. It's important to know what we are looking for in the future."
