Kofi Jantuah: Micah must not let world title shot slip

Former Ghanaian world title contender, Kofi Jantuah, has described Duke Micah’s upcoming world championship fight with John Riel Casimero as a lifetime opportunity which must be taken by the Ghanaian.

Jantuah, who twice lost IBF light middleweight and IBF middleweight title fights during his career, believes Micah must work tirelessly on September 26 to emerge victorious in his maiden world championship bout.

Micah, an undefeated Ghanaian bantamweight fighter, landed a world title shot at the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) bantamweight Tillie against three-division champion Casimero of Philippines on a Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) pay per view card.

Micah’s potential

In an interview with the Graphic Sports, US-based Jantuah said Micah had an ability to become a world champion having followed his progress since his compatriot relocated to the US.

“This is a lifetime opportunity for him to realise his dreams of becoming a world champion and he must take it.

“That’s how this sport is. He must work tirelessly on that night to be able to overcome Casimero ,which I know he has the ability to do,” said 46-year-old Jantuah, who once held the WBC International light middleweight title.

Recent contests

Micah will make his ring return in eight months following two victories in 2019, whilst Casimero last fought in November when he snatched the WBO bantamweight title from Zolani Tete.

If Micah beats Casimero, he will become the 11th Ghanaian to hold a world title after David ‘Poison’ Kotei, Azumah Nelson, Nana Yaw Konadu, Ike Quartey, Alfred Kotey, Joshua Clottey, Joseph Agbeko, Emmanuel Tagoe, Isaac Dogboe and Richard Commey.

His victory will also make him the only champion in the country currently after Isaac Dogboe and Richard Commey lost their belts.
