Pontillas said his confidence had soared after reviewing a number of video tapes of Tagoe’s fights and believed the Ghanaian would not stand a chance in the ring.

“I have watched him a number of times and he is a good boxer, but I have come to give him a good fight and defeat him,” the Filipino bragged.

Pontillas, with a ring record of 15 wins, eight through knockout and five loses, will be fighting an African opponent for the first time. But the Filipino said was optimistic he would triumph on Friday night did not feel intimidated staging his first fight on the African continent.

Despite his confidence, the 23-year-old Latin American said he would not underestimate the prowess of his Tagoe but expected boxing fans to come and witness the fall of their local hero.

His manager, Brico Santig, said although his boxer were fighting an African for the first time they were not worried because they had fought many international bouts and would not have any problems.
