Banku wants Chackhkiev fight postponed

The management of Braimah Kamoko, alias Bukom Banku, has written to Sports Entertainment Boxing Promotion (SEBP), promoters of the upcoming WBC Silver cruiserweight title bout between Banku and Rakhim Chackhkiev, to postpone the fight to enable the boxer to fully recuperate after injuring his right hand in an accident.

Hard-hitting Braimah Kamoko suffered a swollen right hand which reportedly emanated from an accident in his house while celebrating the win over Ayittey Powers.

But with less than a week for Banku to enter the ring once again in Moscow against hard-hitting Rakhim “The Machine” Chackhiev on May 30, Kamoko’s camp is demanding an extension to ensure that he recuperates fully.

His manager, Abraham Kotey Neequaye, told the Daily Graphic that his boxer could now move his right hand freely while the swelling has also diminished but added that a lot had been missed in training.

He expressed the hope that the bout would be rescheduled, while his boxer trains feverishly towards a favourable response from the promoters.

Meanwhile, Mr Kotey Neequaye has told this paper his fighter is ready to face Michael Ayittey Powers Okine again in the ring in Kumasi in October.

This follows a tentative agreement between the two camps for a second bout after Powers claimed his opponent had cheated for being overweight in their much-publicised bout.

The CEO of Box Office Promotions, Alex Ntiamoah Boakye, told the Daily Graphic that the bout would come off but not before a tight contest between Obodai Sai and Issa Samir in a light middleweight contest at the Accra sports Stadium.
