Wereko-Brobby damns NPP ‘dictators’

Dr Charles Wereko-Brobbey‘Suspended’ founder member of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby, has launched a sweltering attack on the leadership of the party describing them as “temporary dictators.”

Dr Wereko-Brobby, who failed in his bid to secure the National Chairmanship position at the party’s last national delegates congress in 2010, wants the current crop of leaders in the NPP changed at the next congress in order to revive the party and “get ready for the battle of 2016.”

His fury comes on the heels of a decision by the party to suspend him for exhibiting behaviours that put the image of the party into disrepute. The decision was reached at a meeting last Friday, May 31, 2013, but was not communicated to Dr Wereko-Brobby until Monday, June 3, 2013.

Speaking on the Joy FM Super Morning Show yesterday, the host of Tarzan’s Take on Multi TV “strongly rejected” a letter communicating the decision to suspend his membership from the party pending a disciplinary hearing.

According to Dr Wereko-Brobby , his suspension is “a temporary hiccup by temporary dictators and I take it with a great pinch of Ada salt.”

The failed presidential hopeful in the 2000 election on the ticket of the now defunct United Ghana Movement (UGM) is least worried, as he was sure the “party will revive in due course” for the 2016 elections.

He has demanded immediate withdrawal of the decision to suspend him pending disciplinary hearing. He said he would not make any appearance before the disciplinary committee, unless his suspension was revoked.

He claimed some members of the current leadership of the party “did worse things in the past and did not see it as injurious to the party.” He wanted those people to be dealt with in like manner.

Meanwhile, Nana Akomea, Communications Director for the NPP, has stated that Dr Wereko-Brobby’s rejection of the letter communicating his suspension would  not invalidate the decision reached by the party hierarchy.

“In effect, Dr wereko-Brobby cannot hold himself nor speak as a member of the New Patriotic Party”, Nana Akomea stressed, and added that the disciplinary committee would be compelled to take the necessary action if he [Dr Wereko-Brobby] failed to appear before it.
