We made 388 promises not 631 — Oppong Nkrumah

The government has refuted the claims by the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) made 631 promises in its 2016 manifesto.

It said the NPP rather made 388 promises in its 2016 manifesto.

“As we get into 2020 national conversation period, one of the narratives that the NDC seeks to carve is a narrative of dishonesty and in order to give life or credence to that narrative, they have to create scenarios that if indeed we made 388 promises, they will find some ways of adding 235 and claim that we made 631 and in the end, say we have been dishonest,” the Minister of Information, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah told journalists at a news conference yesterday to respond to the issues raised by the NDC at its press briefing

The NDC at a media engagement yesterday argued that the Akufo-Addo government made 631 promises in its 2016 manifesto adding that only 83 of such promises have been delivered, thus rating the government 14 per cent on promises fulfilled.

Distortion

Mr Oppong Nkrumah described the claim as a distortion of fact and one that the leading opposition party was using to serve its own parochial partisan interest.

He further stated that the NDC had forgotten that if the country succeeded, regardless of which administration was in power, it inured to the benefit of all Ghanaians.

“When Ghana’s leadership is respected and appreciated across the continent or the world, they too, regardless of their partisan political colour will benefit from the collateral credit,” Mr Oppong Nkrumah stated.

Development conversations

He further admonished that in spite of this year being an election year, the country needed to focus on conversations which would help bring development.

“We are clear in our minds that this year being an election year, despite expectations that our attention as a nation even on politics should be focused on leadership in times of crises, it comes as no surprise that the group will resort to such attempts. We do not believe that Ghana’s progress record should be undermined in those attempts to be partisan,” he added. - #GhanaVotes2020
