"We have not forgotten your sacrifices" – Ashie Moore salutes grassroots leaders as NDC Branch Elections commence
The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, has paid a heartfelt tribute to branch executives across the region, saluting their dedication and sacrifices in delivering an unprecedented electoral victory in the 2024 general elections.
In a statement issued as branch elections commenced on Saturday, June 20, Mr. Ashie Moore expressed deep appreciation to the party's grassroots leaders, describing their commitment as the driving force behind the NDC's remarkable performance in the region. The party secured 29 parliamentary seats in Greater Accra, surpassing expectations and solidifying its presence across the 34 constituencies.
"We have not forgotten your efforts, dedication and support. We know the sacrifices you made, and we will reward you at the right time," Mr. Ashie Moore stated, recalling the countless late nights and long hours spent by executives campaigning alongside parliamentary candidates and the party's flagbearer.
The regional chairman highlighted the NDC's performance in the presidential election, where President John Dramani Mahama polled 1,120,719 votes, representing 66.48 per cent of valid votes cast in Greater Accra. The New Patriotic Party's candidate, Mahamudu Bawumia, obtained 562,135 votes, representing 33.35 per cent. Mr. Ashie Moore described the outcome as unprecedented in the party's history in the region and attributed the achievement to the unwavering commitment of branch executives and supporters.
According to him, the executives played a critical role in mobilising supporters, building strong party structures and ensuring that the party's message reached voters across the region. He noted that he had the opportunity to interact closely with branch executives during the 2024 campaign and had witnessed firsthand the sacrifices made by party members.
As the party prepares for the branch elections, Mr. Ashie Moore urged contestants to put the interests of the NDC first and maintain the momentum that contributed to the party's recent successes. "I wish each and every one of you the best of luck in the upcoming elections. May the party's interests be your guiding principle, and may you emerge victorious," he said.
The branch executive elections, which began on Saturday, June 20, 2026, are expected to be held across various branches over the next month. The exercise is expected to test the organisational strength of the NDC and shape the party's grassroots leadership ahead of future political contests.
