Rawlings throw weight behind Zanetor's parliamentary bid

Former President, Flt Lt Jerry Rawlings at the weekend made a surprise appearance at the campaign rally organised by his daughter, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings to kick-start stage two of her campaign aimed at getting the nod of NDC delegates as a Parliamentary candidate for Korle Klottey.

The former President who caused frenzy amongst an already charged crowd, discounted claims that Zanetor did not hail from the constituency and charged delegates to vote on issues and not on monetary and material considerations.

The former President who spoke in Ga, said Zanetor was born and bred in the constituency and has always had the desire to serve the people.

The atmosphere at the Mandela Park near the Osu Castle was charged long before the arrival of the founder of the NDC.

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings had earlier led her supporters on a walk from Asylum Down through to the Mandela Park and at a point was compelled to mount a horse brought in by one of her admirers because her diminutive figure meant many of the teeming crowd could not see her amongst the throng.

In her address she charged her supporters to vote for people with genuine intentions.

“The power is yours, you have the power, don’t let anyone pay you to take away that power,” she stated.

Dr Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings further pointed out that, through wide consultations with the constituents, she has put together a development plan for the Korle Klottey Constituency and will ensure it is implemented when she is elected as member of Parliament.

She said the plan will focus on issues the constituents themselves had raised including issues of education, sanitation, health and employment.

“There are several corporate institutions and companies in the constituency, I will impress upon these companies to have a quota system in place where all of them will be required to provide employment for the constituents,” she added.

The NDC will go to the polls on November 7 to elect parliamentary and a presidential candidate for the 2016 elections.
