In the three-horse race that pitted the incumbent MP and Deputy Central Regional Minister, Mrs Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr against a younger member of Ahwoi family, Mrs Efua Bram-Larbi, also known as Efua Ahwoi and Mr Felix Ackom Arhin, the incumbent managed a comfortable win to retain her ticket.

At the end of the election which was generally peaceful and supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Sawyerr secured 5,501 votes to defeat Efua Bram-Larbi who had 2,242 votes while Felix Ackom Arhin polled 44 votes. 198 votes were rejected in the parliamentary primary.

Meanwhile, in the presidential primary, 6,998 voted Yes for President John Dramani Mahama while 754 voted against him and 253 votes were rejected.

In the parliamentary primary in the round up to the 2012 general elections, the contest was a straight battle between Mrs Pokuah Sawyerr and Mr Kwesi Ahwoi, then the Minister of Food and Agriculture.

At end of that election, Mrs Pokuah Sawyerr beat Mr Ahwoi by just three votes to emerge winner and went ahead to win the general election.
