President Mahama attends UN General Assembly

John MahamaPresident John Dramani Mahama is in New York to participate in the General Assembly of the United Nations at the UN Headquarters in New York.

The assembly's annual general debate will open on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, and run through to Tuesday, October 1, 2013.

It is a forum where Heads of State and Government and other high national officials gather to present their views on pressing world issues,

The inaugural meeting of the High-level Political Forum on sustainable development, established by the assembly in response to the outcome of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), will also take place that day. It will be on the sidelines of the general debate,

The next day, the President of the General Assembly will convene a special event on follow-up efforts towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the post-2015 era.

The assembly will also hold another high-level meeting on achieving the goal of nuclear disarmament.

Following the close of the general debate will be another high-level dialogue on international migration and development on October 3 and 4 that will identify measures to enhance the benefits of international migration for both migrants and countries.
