PPP reacts to Graphic story

National Chairman for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond, has in a letter to the Daily Graphic, expressed his party’s dismay at being omitted from a front page pictorial representation of political parties published in the Monday, September, 9, 2013 edition of the paper.

The said pictorial representation accompanied the Daily Graphic’s front page story headlined “Political parties welcome electoral reforms”.

Reacting to the omission, the PPP chair said; “It is with dismay that I read today’s front page of the Daily Graphic reporting the acceptance of the Electoral Commission’s request for electoral reforms by political parties with the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) visibly omitted from the pictorial representation of ‘Parties’.

Describing the PPP as the third largest political party and second largest opposition party in Ghana, Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond recalled that they were the first political party that wrote to the Electoral Commission (EC) after the elections suggesting electoral reforms.

According to him, the PPP, in that letter dated December 11, 2012,recommended that, “among other things, the EC move to a fully electronic voting system similar to those found in Brazil, Mexico etc. with some minimum conditions.”

“Subsequently, at a press conference on December 20, 2012, I reiterated the need for electoral reforms if we are to avoid petitions in future elections because ‘all is not well with the systems and processes used for elections in this country,’” the PPP chair alluded.

In the light of these, he stated that the party expected more recognition from the largest circulating newspaper in Ghana which the Daily Graphic is.
