The Yilo Krobo National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Inter-party Dialogue Committee, in collaboration with the Municipal Assembly, has organised a meeting among all the political parties to celebrate the national victory.

Representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Convention People’s Party (CPP),  three of the political parties in the municipality that took part in the 2012 December general election, were all present.

One unique feature of the participating parties which made the meeting very interesting was the mentioning of the various party’s catch phrases such as “Eye zu”, “Kukurudu”, “Forward Ever”, for NDC, NPP, and CPP, respectively, each time anybody spoke.

They all played and danced to music at the function.

The acting Yilo Krobo NCCE Director, Mr Emmanuel Anim Nyarko, told the members of the various parties that he was very pleased with the calm that existed in the Yilo Krobo municipality.

He said the Supreme Court judgment was in the interest of everybody and a victory for Ghana and not any individual party.

He was pleased that citizens of Yilo Krobo were relating well with one another after the verdict.

“No matter the party’s affiliation, we should relate well, devoid of insults and insinuations, because before party politics, you were Yilo Krobos and would continue to be Yilo Krobos,” Mr Nyarko emphasised.

“Whatever you heard, whatever you were told about each party during the petition, forgive and forget now that the matter was over and that will bring the peace we are enjoying,” the NCCE director added.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Andrews Sodah, said the municipality had a lot of challenges, which called for unity among all the political parties and, therefore, stressed the need for all to put the past behind them and unite for the development of the area.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Magnus Kofi Amoatey, called on all political parties with good ideas to support the assembly for holistic development.

All political party representatives who spoke at the function emphasised the point that they were all the same people aiming at the same thing, and that there was no need to be at one another’s throat now that the court issue was over but rather to unite in the interest of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area.

As part of activities to cement the unity in the municipality, there was a health walk and football matches among all the political parties.
