Eight hundred polling station members from the Klottey Korle Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have undergone a training to enhance their proficiency in delivering quality electoral services.
The programme, which was held at the Osu Presbyterian Hall in Accra, was also geared towards building their capacity and sensitising them to efficient organisational and internal structural systems of the party.
It was also to bring the executives together to learn and brainstorm measures and frameworks to help the NPP win back power via the 2016 general election.
Participants were taken through the ideologies, missions and visions of the party, intricacies of teamwork, registration and electoral processes, and ways to empower the electorate to present better what the party stands for.
The four-day course, which was organised under the tutelage of the Constituency Chairman of the party, Mr Nii Noi Nortey, attracted some of the bigwigs of the NPP in the country.
Essence of training
Mr Nortey said the significance of the initiative was to empower the executive to be resilient, and educate them on the intricacies of the positions they held.
Speaking on the theme: “Strengthening the grass roots structures for victory 2016,” Mr Nortey said the programme would empower the participants to send appropriate information and messages to the various polling stations in the constituency.
“There is a dire need for this training programme because our polling station executives are the basic structures of the party, since they are mandated to determine the fate of the party and its successes,” he remarked.
The initiative, he added, would equip the participants to help in vote canvassing and consolidation, thereby helping the party to amass more votes to win the 2016 general election.
Speaking on some of the problems ascertained from the participants before the programme, the constituency chairman indicated that some of the executive members were ignorant of the basic tools taught at the training.
He observed that the training had helped to equip the participants with the concepts and ideologies of the party, and this they would use to serve the partyat its various polling stations.
Laudable initiative
The Chairman of the Council of Elders of Klottey Korle NPP, Mr B.D.K Adu, told the Daily Graphic that the initiative was one of its kind, adding that it was a measure to help the executive members to defend and uphold the values of the party.
Mr Adu, who is a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Okere-Akuapem, called on other constituencies in the country to replicate the initiative.
Most of the polling station executive members who spoke to the Daily Graphic at the programme thanked the constituency chairman for the enterprise, and pledged their unflinching support to facilitate the party’s position to come out victorious in the 2016 general election.
