Newly created districts, municipalities to be inaugurated next month

The newly-created 38 Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) throughout the country will be inaugurated in the second week of next month.

The Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) in charge of rural economic development, Mr Collins Augustine Ntim, who made this known in an interview, said he was impressed by the preparedness of the districts and municipalities towards making infrastructure and other facilities available to meet the deadline.

Mr Ntim, accompanied by the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Ms Elizabeth Agyeman, visited five of the newly-created municipal assemblies carved out from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to acquaint himself with their preparations.

Newly created municipal assemblies

The municipal assemblies are Suame, Tafo, Oforikrom Kwadaso and Asokwa. Mr Ntim and the deputy minister also visited Manso-Adubia, one of the newly-created districts which was also carved out from the Manso-Nkwanta District.

Mr Ntim, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Offinso North, urged the new districts and municipalities to make sure they made office accommodation for district chief executives and coordinating directors, as well as the key staff including agriculture, finance and budget.

He, however, advised the management of the Manso-Adubia District to put in more work.

Mr Ntim reiterated that the creation of additional DMAs by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led-administration was to give meaning to decentralisation which he stressed was necessary for accelerated development.

The deputy minister, therefore, called on Ghanaians to rally behind the government to carry out its pragmatic and meaningful economic strategies to move the country forward.
