New Juaben MP-elect urges NPP to remain calm

Nana Adjei Boateng, who is also the immediate past New Juaben Municipal Executive (MCE), spoke to the Daily Graphic to outline his development agenda for the constituency.

He said although it was obvious that the NPP would retain the constituency seat while Nana Akufo Addo, the party’s presidential candidate, would also be victorious in last week’s elections due to the massive support accorded him and Nana Akufo-Addo, it was unfortunate that the presidential results did not favour the NPP.

The MP-elect, therefore, asked the people in the constituency, especially supporters of the NPP who might have been aggrieved about the outcome of the presidential results, to be calm and not to do anything that would lead to tension and chaos in the area.

He said the constituency and the New Juaben Municipality as a whole needed peace for development so there was no need for the people to be at one another’s throat to disturb the peace the area was enjoying before the elections.

Nana Adjei Boateng thanked the people for the massive support they accorded him to retain the seat, adding that “we are all one people who need peace for development, which is beyond political party colours.”

With regard to his plans for the total development of the constituency, the former MCE indicated that since he was aware of the problems in the area, he had already drawn up a programme to address such problems.

Those, he said, included urban and rural poverty, limited school infrastructure, especially in the rural areas, sanitation and other initiatives that would empower the people to make decent living.

On rural poverty, he indicated that it would be addressed with a long-term solution under which he would give all forms of assistance to enable children of school age to go to school and climb the academic ladder to be useful citizens.

That, he said, could be accomplished with the provision of modern classroom blocks and accommodation for teachers to stay in the rural areas within the constituency such as Mpaem and Akwadum.

On sanitation, Nana Adjei Boateng said he would support the assembly by periodically organising clean-up exercises, especially within Asokore, Effiduasi and Oyoko, the three densely-populated towns within the constituency where refuse collection has always been a problem.
