Some youth groups sympathetic to the National Democratic Congress’ cause in the Greater Accra Region have pledged their support to Mr Henry Ekow Manly-Spain to chair the party’s branch in the region.
According to the group, Mr Manly-Spain is the best choice for the NDC regional chair position, since he has the pedigree to work to help the NDC win in the Greater Accra Region convincingly come Election 2016.
In a statement signed by Mr Ruben Adoh, spokesperson for the groups, the groups said the charisma of Mr Manly-Spain, coupled with his humility and hardworking, unifying and team playing character would make the Greater Accra Region a no-go area for the opposition New Patriotic Party in the 2016 elections.
Mr Adoh also doubles as the NDC ward Secretary for Soko Bethel Presby in the Ablekuma Central Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
In the statement, the groups argued that Mr Manly-Spain, when voted as the new Greater Accra Regional Chairman, would attract floating voters for the NDC, saying;“He identifies easily with the people in the region, as well as those in the party, very well to the admiration of those who belong to other political parties.”
“If there is any aspiring chairman who is working hard to ensure victory for the NDC in the December 2016 elections, then that person is Mr Manly-Spain, and we will not let him work in vain. We are going all out to support his efforts,” they added.
The decision by the youth to support Mr Manly-Spain, according to the statement, is because Mr Manly-Spain is taking his unity message to the doorstep of the people, a move the groups described as unprecedented in the history of politics within the NDC branch in the region.
They urged Mr Manly-Spain to continue with his message of peace and unity which was devoid of promises but rather centred on how best to bring unity and tranquillity to the party to present a formidable front come 2016 elections
“Let us save the NDC from collapsing in the Greater Accra Region before we go to opposition. And the best way to rescue the party from total collapse is to show support for Mr Manly-Spain,” the statement added.
