NDC gives green light for flagbearer hopefuls to start campaign

The National Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has with immediate effect sanctioned campaigning for flagbearer hopefuls of the party ahead of the 2020 elections.

However, the General Secretary of the party, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah at a press briefing today in Accra directed that all hopefuls must first inform the party of their intention to contest the slot before campaigning.

He also warned the would-be aspirants to be wary of some of the comments they passed during the campaign that might denigrate the party.

He warned against lavish campaigning by aspirants because of the hardship currently being experienced by Ghanaians.

Mr Nketiah announced that the date for the election of the flagbearer of the party is December 7, 2018 and the venue, as well as the filing fees, will be announced in the coming months. The fees, he said will vary and be biased towards the youth and women.

He also explained that the NEC of the party has also decided that there will be no cap on the number of aspirants although they expect a stringent vetting of nominations to whittle down the number.

Among those who have indicated their interest to lead the party are Dr Ekwow Spio Garbrah, Prof Joshua Alabi, Sylvester Mensah and former President John Dramani Mahama.
