Concerning water challenges in the community, the MP said he understood people’s frustration, looking at the proximity of the Weija Dam and the communities.

At a meeting with members of the Sea View Land Owners Association (SVLOA) at New Bortianor recently, Mr Demordzi gave an assurance of the government’s commitment and disclosed that the community would benefit from the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area Water and Sanitation Project (GAMAWAP), which is a World Bank project aimed at expanding water distribution to the Eastern corridors of Accra.

He also disclosed that under the project, a dam around the Solo, which is located right in the Bortianor Community, would soon be built for the distribution of potable water for the community.

The successful completion of the water project, the MP said, would bring major benefits and relief to residents of the community.

Security

On security challenges in the area, the MP underscored the government’s awareness of the challenges and disclosed that there were three district police commands within the constituency.

They are Weija, Krobitey, and the newly commissioned Amanfrom Police Command.

That, he said, was to ensure police visibility and accessibility within the area. He promised to be the first person to contribute to an idea of a Police Post in the Sea View area.

Residents of Sea View Community, near Bortianor, face major challenges which are making life difficult in the area. The road network is in a deplorable condition and there are no streetlights. This has resulted in robbers capitalising on the bad roads and the darkness to attack innocent residents.

The SVLOA has appealed to the Ga South Municipal Assembly to come to its aid.

In view of the security challenges, the association is also appealing to the assembly to provide streetlights to minimise the rampant attacks.

Other challenges are the poor road network, water and sanitation and drainage systems.

Road network

On road network, the MP said his focus was to ensure that roads were reshaped and added that the main Ajaasco- junction-Red top-West Hill Mall 3.1km road had been awarded to a contractor and that work would soon begin.

On the link roads, he said if the association could raise some funds to buy fuel, he would release earth moving machine to help reshape them in the interim.

Commendation

He commended members of the association for coming together to strategise on how to improve living conditions in the area.

He said since the government alone could not do it all, it was a step in the right direction for the citizenry to live up to its civic responsibilities of playing their part.

He asked the residents to endeavour to pay their property rate to the assemblies, as well as other tax obligations to the state, to enable the state to mobilise the needed revenue for more development in the area.

GA South  Assembly

The Public Relations Officer of the Ga South Municipal Assembly, Mr Eliot Adom, said though the assembly would be eight years this year, it could not compare itself with well-endowed assemblies such as the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.

He reiterated the need for the members of the communities, especially organised bodies such residents associations, to support the Assembly by encouraging the members to pay their property rates.

That, he said, would help facilitate projects such as the road network, water and sanitation as well as drainage within the area.

Regularisation of Land Documents

He also disclosed that the Assembly was taking steps to regularise land documentations for the residents.

He, therefore, called on the residents association to support the local council in its activities.

For instance, he said the association could adopt the D/A school in the community to help motivate the teachers to lift the standard of teaching and learning at the school to prevent situations where parents paid huge sums of money to send their children to schools far away.

SVLOA Chairman

The Chairman of SVLOA, Mr VEK Asmah, expressed appreciation to the MP and the representative from the Ga South Assembl, saying “we are going to hold you to your promises.”

He said there was no need belabouring the challenges confronting residents, since the authorities were aware of it and added that “while residents play their part to overcome the problems, government would equally play its part to make life worth living.”
