Julius Debrah replaces Local Govt Minister

President John Mahama has re-assigned the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Julius Debrah as Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, a position which was previously held by Mr Akwasi Oppong-Fosu.

A statement from the Flagstaff House announcing the change was silent on the reasons for the re-assignment.

It did not also mention a new designation for Mr Akwasi Oppong Fosu.

It said the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Antwi Bosiako-Sekyere has also been nominated as Minister for the Eastern Region.

The statement explained the nomination and re-assignment were in accordance with Article 79(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

President Mahama also nominated Mr Alex Segbefia as a Deputy Minister of Defence.

Mr Segbefia used to be a Deputy Chief of Staff during President J.E.A. Mills' tenure.

It said the Chief Director at the Ministry of Interior, Alhaji Salifu Osman has been appointed as a Deputy National Security Coordinator.

The statement said the Tema Regional Director of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), Mr. Emmanuel Tanga has been appointed Deputy Director of the BNI, while the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Yaw Effah Baafi has also been re-assigned as the Deputy Minister for Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs.

Dr. John Kofi Baffoe, an Economist with the African Development Bank, has also been appointed Technical Adviser to the Minister for Finance. 

It said Dr. Baffoe has over thirty years of experience at the most senior levels in Macro and Development Economics, the statement said.
