Mr Sakyi, a teacher at the Effutu Senior High School, polled 18 out of the 25 votes cast by the assembly members during a meeting for his approval at Hemang last week Thursday.

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Sarpong, who was present at the meeting, described demonstrations against the President’s nominations as a disgrace and advised the people to stop those unproductive acts and redirect their energies into supporting the development of their areas.

Mr Sarpong said since the nominations were neither for a party, a group of people nor individuals but for the good of the people of the country, the demonstrators should allow the President to do his work.

He underscored the important role of metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives in the smooth administration of the districts. He added that the regional ministers needed them to perform their functions of local administration.

He advised Mr Sakyi to be transparent, accountable and operate an open-door policy to embrace the chiefs and the people in the district.

The Central Regional Deputy Minister, Ms Queenstar Maame Pokuaa Sawyerr and member of parliament for Agona East, who exercised oversight responsibility for the district until the approval, urged the people to rally behind the DCE for the development of the area.

For his part, Mr Sakyi promised to work in collaboration with the chiefs and people to uplift the district to greater heights and commended the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him.
