CONGRATULATOIONS, PROSESSOR NAANA JANE OPOKU AGYEMAN RUNNING MATE OF H.E JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA, THE FLAG BEARER AND PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE OF THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS (NDC)

EAGLES FORUM congratulates you, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman on your selection and endorsement as the Running mate to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer and Presidential Candidate of the biggest opposition party and Government in waiting, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Your selection has inspired many, including the working and middle class, the entire academic community, trade unions, and most importantly ordinary Ghanaians who have almost given up on politics and politicians in general. Your selection as the Running mate to John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the NDC has rekindled a new hope in Ghanaians all across the board.

Your impeccable achievements in Academia, first as an intellectual par excellence, and as an astute and accomplished leader, providing the required leadership in managing the complexities of an institution such as a public university is worthy of note. Successfully running a public university is akin to efficiently managing a highly sophisticated society. Not only are you dealing with very young and intelligent students, but equally dealing with qualified and knowledgeable colleagues with varying and diverse opinions and interests. The concerns of members of the surrounding community whose economic sustenance depends on the larger University community, and that of the Junior and Senior Staff mattered to you as well. To have flawlessly managed such a highly distinguished group of people and achieved great success doesn’t only make you a formidable leader of immense substance, but lays bare your skills, competencies, wisdom, intelligence and knowledge that will become the embodiment of the qualities that are needed to make our country great and strong.

As Minister of Education from 2013 to 2016, your dexterity at working and dealing with the demands of the largest institutional workforce wasn't surprising. You did not resort to mantras and media encounters to court attention, but rather worked hard to deliver the mandate of the President with respect to ensuring affordable and accessible quality education to the Ghanaian child. You gave hope to the youth by overseeing an all-inclusive educational system that ensures every child in Ghana has access to quality Education and opportunities to excel for greater heights. We thus applaud your sterling record of unwavering commitment to quality outcomes, innovative policy initiatives and massive infrastructural development during your tenure at the Ministry of Education.

Your openness to new information and your consultative leadership will ensure that the much-needed collaboration between politicians, the academia and industry which has eluded this country for a long time will once again come to the fore. No nation develops on the ideas of politicians. Nations develop when policy makers listen to new innovations from academia and help transit these new ideas and innovations into industry. This is what will create the much needed growth and sustainable jobs for the youth. Your consultative leadership is guaranteed to ensure that.

Data from the Ghana Living Standard Surveys (GSSL 7) 2019 illustrates that 66% of the employed in Ghana are engaged in vulnerable jobs, i.e. low paying informal work arrangements or work with no social security while 20% remain unemployed. Today, the confluence of big data, connectivity and artificial intelligence is revolutionizing old industries and creating entirely new once. It is what is driving the modern society and opening up huge opportunities for the youth while radically changing the way society works and interacts. Your openness to new ideas and intellectual capacity ably demonstrated over the years makes you the best fit to lead in unleashing innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit embedded in our able and brilliant youth and help move this country onto a new trajectory.

At EAGLES FORUM we look forward to supporting you by intensely interrogating your policies to ensure that it is truly centered on the ordinary Ghanaian and that these policies will lift our young people out of poverty and provide them with the sustainable and well-paying jobs they so much desire.
Once again, accept our warmest congratulations Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman.

Signed
Bruchim Linus Kweku Labik
Secretary General
