Ghanaians will extend NDC mandate – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has predicted that the mandate of the ruling National Democratic Congress will be extended come December 2016 because the party will fulfil all its electioneering campaign for a better Ghana.

He said the fulfilment of the promises will be the basis for the extension of the mandate of the government.

“The people of Ghana will see that the mandate that they gave us was justified and I am certain that they will ask us to carry on,” he told party followers in the Upper East region during a tour Thursday.

President Mahama enumerated development projects underway in the region, including the rebuilding of the Pwalugu tomato factory into a first class tomato processing cannery, the extension of electricity to many communities lacking it and for which the counterpart funding has been paid to expedite execution, the distribution of about 200,000 solar lamps to communities that do not have electricity, the building of more secondary schools and the construction of theTumu-Han-Wa Road to link Bolgatanga and Wa with a first-class road.

“We have programmed Upper East Region as one of the regions that will receive a regional hospital,” he said, assuring that the regional hospital will be funded from a China/Exim Bank facility.

There is also a programme to build an aerodrome for the region, a project that will see other aerodromes in the Central, Eastern and Volta regions to allow for domestic flights in and out of the regions.

He assured that the government has the will to fight corruption, and while he will provide leadership in that direction, there was need to take measures to prevent or at least reduce the incidence, saying prevention is better than cure.

It was in that direction that he recently announced measures to curtail corruption and called on all to join in the fight. Persons found to be guilty of corrupt acts will also not go unpunished.

President Mahama enjoined followers of the NDC to unite their ranks, saying that when in March next year the party goes to the polls to elect officials, not all will win but it should not divide the party.
