The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed all its overseas branches to conduct their chapter elections on or before Sunday, July 19, 2026.
The party warned that chapters that failed to meet the deadline would be barred from participating in the branch elections scheduled for August 8.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by the party's Director of Finance and Administration, William Yamoah and addressed to branch steering committees.
It said the directive was issued in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the party's 2026 internal elections as approved by the national council.
The statement urged branch steering committees to immediately notify all chapter executive committees and ensure strict compliance with the directive.
It warned that any chapter that failed to conduct its elections within the stipulated period would be ineligible to participate in the August 8 branch elections.
The statement called on party officials to support the constitutional processes governing the internal elections to ensure a smooth and orderly exercise.
Mr Yamoah also expressed appreciation for the anticipated cooperation and commitment of party officials to the successful conduct of the election.
The chapter is the basic organisational unit of the NPP outside Ghana and is established in countries where the party has recognised structures.
The party's constitution provides that chapters shall operate in accordance with the constitution and regulations of the party and are responsible for promoting the aims and objectives of the NPP among Ghanaians living abroad.
Under the NPP constitution, chapters are recognised as integral structures of the party and are expected to organise internal elections in line with rules approved by the national council.
The ongoing internal elections form part of the NPP's roadmap to renew its leadership structures from the grassroots through to the national level ahead of the party's future political activities.
