Passport, visa services to be paused at U.S. Embassy Accra for two weeks

The United States (U.S.) Embassy in Accra has announced a suspension of most routine consular services from July 20 to July 31, 2026, to allow for scheduled facility maintenance. Normal operations are expected to resume on August 3, 2026.

During the maintenance period, walk-in services for notaries and Consular Reports of Death Abroad will not be available.

However, applicants who have received email notifications that a pending passport or Consular Report of Birth Abroad document is ready for pickup can still collect their documents on Thursdays between 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm.

Adult passport renewals submitted via the Embassy's drop box will continue to be processed during the suspension. Instructions are available on the U.S. Embassy website.

U.S. citizens in Ghana with emergencies requiring consular assistance can contact the Embassy's duty officer at +233 (0) 30 274 1000.

The Embassy has advised the public to plan accordingly and to check its website for updates on the resumption of services.
