Better place

The first Vice Chairman of the branch, Mr Michael Awuah, stated at the event that if Ghana would be a better place for both current and next generations, then the NPP must be retained in the 2020 elections.

To win the election, he said the diaspora branches had no excuse to be back benchers.

Mr Awuah, who threw more light on the achievements of the Nana Akufo-Addo administration, commended members for their financial support towards the 2016 election.

He said all the five constituencies supported by the Japan branch were won by the party.

Government initiatives

Ghana’s Ambassador to Japan, Mr Frank Okyere, who was the guest of honour, enumerated what the government was doing to ease the burden of Ghanaians, especially farmers, who research showed, were among the most vulnerable.

He elaborated how the government, thought well of Ghanaians abroad by reducing import duties and placing a biometric passport machine in Tokyo to serve Ghanaians in Asia.

The ambassador reiterated the need for investors to focus on Ghana, especially in the manufacturing and agricultural sectors where good policies had been implemented.

He also stated his commitment to link any Ghanaian and other nationals interested in investing in Ghana through the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) for advice.

Mr Okyere entreated the branch executive members to work hard as election 2020 approached.

Hard work

The branch secretary, Rev. Charles Fofie Newman encouraged the members to dedicate their time and resources to retain the NPP in office in 2020.

He recounted the numerous projects embarked on by the government as part of the agenda of change and creating equal opportunities for all.

He said programmes such as the Free SHS, One-District One-Factory, One-village One-dam, NABCO, Ghana card, 10-year passport, reduction in the benchmark vehicle duty and the Ghana Post GPS were making greater impact on the lives of Ghanaians.

He stressed the changes that Ghana would experience in the Human Development Index soon through the free SHS where over 1.2 million students had been enrolled.

Rev. Newman announced that the national congress of the NPP-Japan had been scheduled to take place on May 4, 2020 in Saitama, Tokyo.
