The Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma West constituency, Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekuful, and members of her constituency have interacted at a forum organised to facilitate responsiveness and accountability on the part of duty bearers.
The forum was held at the Karikari Park in the constituency, and was organised by the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), in collaboration with the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) and the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA).
An Advisory Board Member of CODEO, Mr Angel Carbonu, reminded the constituents that the forum was to create a platform for interaction and therefore, advised them to refrain from personal attacks and the use of abusive language.
He urged them to be analytical and bring up constructive suggestions that would ensure development in the constituency, adding that, “that is the only way to ensure development and improvement of lives in the constituency”.
Giving an account of her stewardship to her constituents, Mrs Ekuful recounted how she had been able to fulfil some of the election promises she made and assured them that she would work hard to address the rest.
The promises included organising periodic health screening activities, support for brilliant but needy children to further their education, providing opportunity for entrepreneurial skills development for the youth, organising forums to interact with constituents, creating a constituency website, improving the lives of persons with disabilities and improving sanitation.
Mrs Ekuful said she had organised clean-up exercises along the beach road, the SSNIT flats, Shiabu and other areas of the constituency.
She added that with the help of nurses from the Mamprobi polyclinic she had also held a health screening exercise and breast cancer awareness campaign in the constituency to educate the people.
“I have given sponsorship to 10 schoolchildren in the constituency from my own pocket, and I am hoping to get funds from individuals and organisations to sponsor other children,” she added.
